Glass and Checkerboard by Juan Gris

₹2,127.57

This is a bit of a departure from the art I usually go for. I tend to like louder colours and more chaos, but this piece has a much more muted, elegant palette. There's something really tasteful about it.

What I love most is how much there is to discover. At first glance, it's hard to tell what you're looking at. But the longer you stare, the more shapes and objects start appearing. Every time I look at it, I seem to notice something new.

There's even a checkerboard in there. I can see it now, but you really have to look for it.

Juan Gris was a Spanish painter and one of the major figures of Cubism. He painted Glass and Checkerboard around 1917, using overlapping geometric shapes and blocks of colour to turn everyday objects into something almost abstract. It's a great example of how Cubism makes you look at familiar things differently.

I can easily imagine this in a contemporary office, a modern apartment, or somewhere with a more professional feel. It's understated without being boring, and abstract enough to keep you looking.

All in all, a really cool piece.
